NB Gin is collaborating with Johnny Roxburgh – party architect to the stars and NB ambassador – to produce a brand-new gin that’s rather special.
There will be more about this exciting new gin in the coming weeks, but before then we thought you’d want to learn more about Johnny Roxburgh. Does he have the greatest job on the planet? Probably. Is he fabulously talented? Absolutely. Is he one of the world’s best gin connoisseurs? There’s no doubt!
Johnny, tell us about yourself.
“I decided maybe about 35 years ago that I had enough of being an accountant and decided that being a party designer would be fun.”
How did you discover NB?
“About three years ago I came to St Andrews – we always organised the Dunhill golf at St Andrews – and there’s a marvellous delicatessen there which sells all kinds of things and on the shelves was a gin called NB Gin.”
What were your first impressions of NB Gin?
“The packaging was nice, it was brand new and I said to the man who owns Balgove Larder, which is the little delicatessen, ‘tell me about this gin’, so I bought a bottle.
“We took it back to London and sat down and made a dry Martini. Can I tell you, it was probably the best dry Martini I’ve ever, ever drunk and that was really because of the extraordinary quality of the gin. It was just amazing.”
How did the NB relationship start?
“I’m rather given to writing to people when I think things are good. So I wrote to the people at NB Gin, who I didn’t know from a bar of soap. They, in a very clever marketing way, sent me a case of gin for free.
“I don’t suggest you all try that because it won’t happen now. Anyway, we then decided that this was amazing and I would like to be an ambassador for them and I then met the couple – Viv and Steve Muir – who started NB Gin and it’s gone from there.”
