Trying to pick London’s best gin bars is a bit like trying to pick your favourite child (okay maybe that’s a little OTT) but there are so many to choose from that it’s a tough task.
Gin and London go w-a-a-a-y back, as you probably know but, as unthinkable as it seems now, the British capital did sort-of fall out of love with gin for a long time.
Luckily, London’s love affair with gin is back and it’s stronger than it’s ever been. London now boasts some of the world’s finest gin bars.
So, in keeping with our series of gin bars in the world’s best cities, we thought we’d highlight five of the best in London.
Who made the top five? Read on and find out!
Is this London gin bar as grown-up and classy as it sounds? Absolutely! But that isn’t even the thing that makes it such a fabulous place to enjoy a gin. It’s probably the fact that these guys are so committed to offering their clientele new gins they now have more than 200 different types available. Amazingly, they will hit the 300 mark before the end of the year.
Ever wondered what drinking gin in a Victorian bar was like? Wonder no more. The Portobello Star has its very own Victorian gin bar. Traditional gin cocktails are one of the mainstays of this fine establishment and a favourite is the Queen Mother Cocktail – named, unsurprisingly, after the Queen Mum who enjoyed an occasional gin herself.
We couldn’t really have a list of London’s top gin bars without including at least one from Soho. Graphic is an uber-cool establishment with a dizzying array of gins to choose from (181 at the last count). Further advancing their gin expert credentials, they have their own Juniper Society with tastings every second Monday.
This friendly and slick venue is all about bare brick walls, gin flights and an impressive selection of quality gins to choose from.
As well as the fabulous gins on offer, these guys also produce their own tonic which has an impressive pink glow to it (seriously). We love this place.
This London gin bar deserves a spot on our list simply for its fabulous name alone. As it turns out, it’s also there on merit too.
If you like your establishments in the speakeasy tradition and with low lighting (and we mean very low lighting) then this place is most definitely for you. This gin bar is known for its creative – and you could even say off-the-wall – gin creations. Innovators? Most definitely… and that’s one of the reasons we love this particular London gin bar.
