We’ve chosen four fabulous European vodka-based cocktails for you to try.
Italy – Bellini
The pastoral essence of Italy is portrayed in this fruity cocktail named after a 15th-century painter. The Bellini was invented in 1934 at Harry’s Bar in Venice with the idea of mixing fruit juice and champagne.
The Bellini cocktail is traditionally made with Prosecco but adding vodka will give it an extra kick (obvs).
To create this Italian classic blend two ripe peaches to create a puree and spoon half into a chilled champagne glass. Add 1 measure of NB Vodka and top up with Prosecco.
France – French 21
A similar version of the traditional French 75 cocktail which is made from gin, the French 21 is an updated version with more colour and a more robust taste.
For this cocktail you will need a shaker. Fill your shaker with ice and add one measure of NB Vodka, one measure of lemon juice, half a measure of raspberry liqueur and finally half a measure of sugar syrup. Shake vigorously, strain into a chilled champagne flute and top up the mixture with sparkling wine.
Belgium – Black Russian
Popular around the time of the Cold War the Black Russian is a mix of vodka and Kahlua. This incarnation was dreamed up in Brussels in 1949.
There have been various renditions of this cocktail, including adding beer and even Coca-Cola (yuk) but we will stick to the traditional version.
Pour 1 measure of NB Vodka and half a measure of Kahlua into a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir and strain into a low ball glass add 2 ice cubes to keep it chilled.
Germany – Chocolate Martini
Germany is famous for its beer but we bet you didn’t know that this country is also the creator of one of Europe’s most fabulous vodka cocktails?
The Chocolate Martini is perfect for an after-dinner drink to create a unique dessert.
To create this cocktail simply pour one measure of NB Vodka, half a measure of coconut rum and half a measure of cherry liquor into a shaker. Add ice and shake briskly. Strain into a chilled Martini glass and garnish with chocolate shavings.
